OKTOBERFEST 7s

21. + 22. September 2019, Olympic Stadium Munich

England

During a school football game in the city of Rugby, Warwickshire, England in 1823, William Webb Ellis picked up the ball and ran with it. And just like that, the rugby style of play was born – at least according to legend. Today, most historians doubt that this is what actually happened.

What is not in any doubt at all: Ellis‘ English compatriots will compete at the Oktoberfest 7s 2019. The motherland of rugby will surely set their sight on winning the Oktoberfest 7s cup – not only based on their rich tradition, but also on their top results in recent major competitions. The English side reached the finals both at the Olympic Games in Rio 2016 (as part of Team GB) and at the 2018 World Cup in San Francisco.
