South Africa

No other team has shown its excellence as consistently as South Africa in recent years: Over the last six years, the team has six top two finishes in the World Rugby Sevens Series final standings. South Africa also made the podium at the Olympic Games in Rio 2016 and at the 2018 World Cup in San Francisco, winning the bronze medal at both events. The fans in Munich also got a taste of the squads strength: At the inaugural Oktoberfest 7s in 2017, South Africa won five of six games and placed third overall.

The team from South Africa is always under public scrutiny, because rugby – along with football and cricket – is one of the three major sports in the country. That is also why the team of coach Neil Powell will definitely give everything they have at the 2019 Oktoberfest 7s, they want to bring the cup home to their fans.
